Curatorial Narrative In the undated “Dancing Female Nude with Veil” by Armand Rassenfosse, we find an exemplar of Expressionist figuration that suspends the subject in a state of weightless abandon. The soft brushwork and beige, yellow, and pastel hues conspire to evoke an atmosphere of languid reverie, as if the figure were shrouded in a diaphanous mist. This is no coincidence, for Rassenfosse’s technique was deeply influenced by the avant-garde movements of his time, which sought to liberate art from the shackles of representational realism.
