Curatorial Narrative In the midst of World War II, Arnold Peter Weisz-Kubnan’s “Poor Family” (1940) emerged as a poignant representation of humanity’s struggle. This Realist masterpiece, characterized by its sketchy quality, presents a figurative subject that exudes an aura of vulnerability and desperation. The fine brushwork and stark black-and-white palette evoke a sense of urgency, underscoring the dire circumstances of the depicted family. Weisz-Kubnan’s technique masterfully captures the weight of their plight, imbuing the atmosphere with a palpable sense of hardship. When enlarged to 67×44 inches, “Poor Family” transforms into an immersive experience that commands attention in any luxury interior environment. The chromatic structure, devoid of color, heightens the spatial depth, creating an arresting visual rhythm that reverberates through the space.
